Cell-free synthesis of bacteriophage f2 maturation protein 收藏

Previous work has shown that in a cell-free system from Escherichia coli, bacteriophage f2 RNA initiates the synthesis of three proteins and that two of these are the phage coat protein and RNA polymerase. We prove now that the third protein, comprising 1 to 2% of the total protein produced, is the maturation protein, the product of the third phage gene. Fingerprinting and acrylamide gel techniques, as well as mutant and wild-type RNA messengers, were used. We confirm our earlier notion that synthesis of maturation protein is independent of translation both of coat and polymerase genes, a result which implies that there must be at least two sites on f2 RNA to which ribosomes can attach independently.
