A SANDSTONE unit which is considered to be unique to, and diagnostic of, a sub-littoral (neritic) environment occurs at many levels in the stratigraphic column. It shows several features which allow it to be clearly distinguished from units either associated with fluviatile sequences, or supposedly deposited from turbidity currents.
