摘要
Western herbal medicine (WHM) is a therapeutic modality using individual and combinations of plant materials, with minimal processing, to prevent and aid in the treatment of disease. Western herbs and herbal formulas are not classified as drugs and thus not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The lack of regulation highlights the importance of proper veterinarian training, as well as utilizing and recommending herbal products from trusted sources. WHM can be used to aid in the treatment of most veterinary conditions. The introduction of WHM into veterinary practice can be beneficial for both the patient and the health of the practice. The successful incorporation and utilization of WHM does not end with the veterinarian's training. Support staff training and client education are crucial. This chapter discusses the what, why, and how for effective integration of WHM within your practice.
