摘要
Integrative therapy has become increasingly sought after by owners for their pets with cancer. According to a 2003 Survey by the American Animal Hospital Association, 21% of pet owners had used some form of complementary therapy for their pet compared to just 6% in the 1996 survey. Nutrition is an important component of cancer therapy in veterinary patients. Herbal therapies can be used to improve immune system function, slow growth of the cancer, and reduce side effects of treatment, as well as reduce the symptoms of cancer. A systematic review of the use of antioxidants as an adjuvant therapy in human cancer patients indicates it is still unclear whether the use of antioxidants affects treatment outcomes or ameliorate the adverse effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Ozone therapy is becoming more popular as an adjunctive treatment in veterinary medicine for a number of conditions.
